Sugar Dough Bakehouse opened this week at 3122 Corrine Drive in Orlando’s Audubon Park Garden District, as reported by The Bungalower. Specializing in made-from-scratch French pastries with an Asian flair, house-brewed coffee and teas, the 1,000 square-foot bakery is next to Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream and across from the East End Market. The space was previously occupied by the Blue Bird Bake Shop and Your Natural Bites Bakery.
According to their website, Owners Yixi Qiu and Wen Pan met in high school and bonded over their shared Chinese heritage and mutual love of baking, a self-taught skill for both.
The couple opened their first bakery on Aloma Avenue in Winter Park in September 2019. They called it Light on the Sugar and soon became known for their cream puffs, macarons, cakes, and coffee. In spite of the challenges brought on by the pandemic, Light on the Sugar thrived, and Qiu and Pan began planning for a second location.
Sugar Dough Bakehouse will focus on fresh baked bread and pastries, including Japanese milk bread, savory and cream-filled croissants, danishes and more. For bakery connoisseurs who crave something different, cruffins are croissant muffins, a light, flaky pastry in muffin form that’s finished with a variety of delectable toppings.
Sweet and savory cruffles are a cross between croissants and waffles and come in seasonal flavors. Fruit teas and brewed-daily coffee from locally sourced beans is available as well.
The business offers to-go options through UberEats and Doordash, as well as catering for events. A soft opening was held August 4, and Sugar Dough Bakehouse is now open to the public.
