About two years ago, Luis Caceres, who had been working in Mexican restaurants for many years decided — with the urging of friends and family — that it was time to open his own place.

So, he got busy looking for a place to put his brand of restaurant that would serve authentic dishes as well as Mexican mixed with flavors from Asia and Latin America.

He found the place, an empty former restaurant at 925 N. Semoran Boulevard, about a year ago, “during Covid,” he said.

The place was completely gutted and remodeled. “I’ve changed everything inside,” he said.

It will have a patio area with an open bar and a separate party room that will hold up to 60 people, he said.

His wife, Fabia Santos, who has been in the catering business for many years, will be the chef. And, Caceres said, there will also be a bakery in the restaurant. His brother, Jose, will be the restaurant manager.

Erick Nunez is Caceres’s partner in the restaurant. He and his wife, Juliana Reyes, who is a bakery artist, will also be working there.

Caceres said they hope their restaurant, which will be open by mid-November, will be the first of many Catrinas Mexican Fusion locations.

The construction is being done by MR GOMEZ Construction. Owner Michael Gomez said the property used to be many different restaurants but was most recently Mexican. He said his work gave the restaurant the “fusion” feel the owners wanted.
