According to a recent report in OBJ, the Jacksonville-based Sun Ray Cinema will soon open a second location in Daytona Beach. Derailed by the pandemic, this exciting new development will inhabit a closed 10-screen movie theater at 250 N. Atlantic Ave, within the Ocean Walk Shoppes in spring 2019, before the pandemic forestalled the plans.

“You gotta see movies in a state-of-the-art auditorium,” co-owner Shana David-Massett tells What Now Orlando. “And we believe we have to give people food in their seats!”

David-Massett explains that apart from the counter-serve popcorn and soda, the theater brings its classic servings to viewer’s seats such as pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, finger foods and more.

“We have a really extensive menu, so popular that people have come in just to have our food, not even caring what movie they’re seeing,” David-Massett enthuses, adding that the theater was dubbed “The Most Vegan-Friendly Movie Theater in U.S.” by PETA for their extensive plant-based options.

According to the OBJ via co-owner Tim Massett, The Daytona Beach theater was “built in 2002 as the anchor tenant for the more than 110,000-square-foot Ocean Walk and underwent massive renovations in 2016”.

In the most recent round of improvements, “recliners were added, sightlines were adjusted and other key infrastructure changes were made, including adding updated projectors and sound systems.”

Perhaps most notably, the new theater will feature two full kitchens which will facilitate Sun-Ray to offer moviegoers and foodies their full menu.

While no opening date has been set, Shana & Tim Massett anticipate to open in early 2024.
