“A leader in sub sandwiches is coming to the Sunshine State. Port of Subs, the iconic 50-year legacy sandwich brand proudly announces its expansion into Florida with a new regional development agreement. Leading this endeavor is husband and wife, Chris and Georgia Goddard, who have committed to developing 10 Port of Subs locations in the Orlando, Florida area over the next few years,” the release states.
“With a wealth of experience and a shared passion for excellence, the Goddards are poised to make a significant impact. Chris brings extensive experience managing teams across some of the biggest companies in the U.S., while Georgia’s background spans both the restaurant and retail industries, with notable achievements in operations and sales consulting.”
“Our adventure with Port of Subs began thanks to my brother, Chuck, who was already a regional developer with the brand in Austin, TX. He was raving about their business model and community-centric values, and after reviewing the concept and trying the product, I knew it had the potential for widespread growth in our community too,” said Christopher. “Our mission is to make Port of Subs a household name in the Orlando area, bringing the same quality and fresh experience that reminds me of the sub shops my parents owned when I was a kid.”
Known as your neighborhood sandwich shop, Port of Subs has been bringing people together since 1972. Today, Port of Subs has established itself as a leading sandwich franchise. Backed by Area 15 Ventures and its visionary leader, RE/MAX Co-Founder Dave Liniger, the brand is driving nationwide growth for the first time in its 50-year legacy. With more than 220 new units in development, the demand for Port of Subs solidifies the draw of its rich history and stellar business model.
The Goddards are aiming to open their first Port of Subs location next year, with an eye on key areas such as downtown Orlando and its surrounding suburbs, and communities including Sanford, Winter Park, Oviedo, and Lake Mary.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chris and Georgia to our expanding group of regional developers and elite Twenty Club,” said Healey Mendicino, President of Port of Subs. “Their focus and strategic vision aligns perfectly with our brand growth, and we’re excited to see them become an integral part of introducing Port of Subs into the Orlando community.”
“We’ve got the franchise experience,” Regional Developer Chris Goddard tells What Now Orlando, emphasizing their familiarity with fundamentals of franchising such as marketing and finding the right location. In addition, Goddard’s own parents owned two Subway locations in his childhood—arguably, the path for Goddard to franchise a sandwich brand has always been paved.
When asked about the rationale behind his selection, Mr. Goddard says Port of Subs is a “well-vetted” and “future-driven, forward-thinking” brand with a “strong financial backing” by Area 15 Ventures.
And what makes Port of Subs exceptional, compared to other competitors such as Subway, for example?
“The bread quality,” said Goddard. “The bread makes the sandwich. But, the overall product is better.”
Readers unfamiliar with the brand and its menu can take recommendations from the Goddards themselves.
Mrs. Goddard’s favorite?
“Definitely the brownie, hands down. #14, the Ham & Swiss. It is all about the bread.”
And for Mr. Goddard?
“I’m a Classic #7 Roast Beef & Cheese kind of guy. I knew the moment I had the meat and provolone that I had to franchise.”
While there are no specific addresses as of yet, the Goddards are in the selection process for the flagship store.
